THE SPA IN ME
A Book Review: A Pocketful of Seeds By Debbie Johnson
I recently read “A Pocketful of Seeds” by Debbie Johnson. This book is a 365 day action-oriented devotional to plant positive works into the world. Debbie Johnson has devoted her life to serving others by working in missions, social work, and starting DenverWorks. This organization assists people who are unemployed and those with barriers to employment with job preparation and placement to become self-sufficient. It seems fitting that someone with such an inspirational background would write a guide book for people who want to help others but don’t know how.
For each day of the year, this book provides a brief story with an action item to support a cause. Because there are so many causes and needs in the world, having such pointed guidance is extremely helpful. Although it may not be practical to implement an action item every day of the year, we feel the purpose of the book is to provide ideas on how people may get involved. As you read the stories, you may find yourself drawn to certain causes that resonate with you. For example, as we read the book, ideas regarding social entrepreneurship, inner strength, creativity, and health deeply resonated with us.
As you spring these ideas forward, we believe not only that you will you plant seeds in the lives of others, but you will also experience more meaning in your own life.
